Types of Food Gifts

By Peter Emerson Gifts are a source of pleasure, both for the giver and recipient. Food gifts are unique ways of expressing feelings. There are a variety of food gifts that are available in the market and online. The kind of food gift chosen depends on the occasion. In the case of a birthday, a cake would be the appropriate choice. Christmas time makes the combination of sweets and wine most apt. These can be packed appropriately for the occasion. Thanksgiving food gifts usually include roast turkey or smoked meat. At a party, a dessert food gift would compliment the main course. Food gifts of cheese also make delightful surprises at parties. When visiting relatives, a basket of fruits or vegetables, other than those commonly available, makes an ideal gift. A basket of assorted nuts and chocolates is appropriate when visiting friends. Children love candy baskets. Dairy products, including cheeses, also make good food gifts. Food gift baskets can be obtained from the local supermarkets. They can be custom made, considering the specific likes and dislikes of the recipient. They can be either one type of food or a combination, innovatively packed. Various food gift hampers are available online, at the click of the mouse. The payments are also possible online for the convenience of the customers. In case of a faulty gift being mailed, the suppliers replace the order or return the money. Gourmet items can also be sent, at an extra cost. Diabetic gift packages, a nice treat for people who suffer from diabetes, are a lovely gesture. They speak volumes for the person’s concern for the recipient. Sometimes, even a popular recipe, successfully tried out at home, can be packed and gifted to neighbours and friends. Food gifts are the best way to express feelings and show appreciation. It could be a simple “thank you” or a birthday greeting. Food Gifts provides detailed information on Food Gifts, Food Gift Baskets, Gourmet Food Gifts, Corporate Food Gifts and more. Food Gifts is affiliated with Dog Lover Gift Baskets. The French Paradox: Why the French Don’t Get Fat and Americans Do

By Slade Gray It is often observed that the French, among other cultures, enjoy a paradox that is anything but imaginable to most Americans. The French Paradox, as it has been labeled, illustrates how the French eat food that tends to be overwhelmingly rich, buttery, and fattening, yet their health statistics reflect an overall thin, healthy, and long-lived population. Conversely, the United States shares the Frenchs love of decadent and tasty food, yet suffer from an entirely different fate of an overweight and unhealthy culture of people. The statistics are staggering. Two thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, at the time of writing, while the French have an obesity rate looming somewhere near a modest 10% range. And this with the French readily enjoying Foie Gras, Torchons, souffls and all the most deadly of fat and cholesterol-laden foods. What gives? Scientists and social scientists alike have all weighed in of the matter to give us yet a bit more confusion and some form of a plausible explanation. Turns out, scientists have studied all the mainstays of the French diet looking for the smoking gun. First they thought it was the olive oil, with all of its enlightening qualities, yet they still couldnt account for all the other animal-originated fats (the worst kind) that the French consumed. Scientists studied the wine, the garlic, the breads, and even the duck liver for their fat and cholesterol-negating effects, but to no avail. Those baffled by the phenomena found their answer in a more pragmatic approach in the French habits. Turns out that the French are eating their murderous foods just as most developed countries are, yet their approach to consumption is wholly different than our own. As some have said, the French approach food in a more leisurely and time consuming fashion. They have a love affair with food so to speak, so as to take enjoyment in the entire meal and the whole slow process of consumption. This flys in stark contrast to the American style of eating, where it is not uncommon to eat rushed and in a manner that leaves the senses satisfied for only a brief moment. How often have you had to eat an entire meal on your feet and in a matter of minutes without giving yourself time to savor what is going into your mouth? I do it almost daily. As the story goes, this facet of the American diet states that food is for fueling up, rather than to be eaten leisurely while each bite is savored and pondered. Hence we coin a term synonymous with the American diet: fast food. This analysis has yet to explain the entire mystery however. This slow and leisurely process of French eating accounts for an eating style that often focuses on the quality and complexity of the food rather than the quantity. Put in a different way, the French eat less than we do. Plain and simple, regardless of how oily and cheesy French food is, they stick to small and manageable portions of these classically heavy dishes. The French adhere to eating strictly three meals a day, steering themselves away from snacks and excessive alcohol consumption, so as to enjoy what they want and steer clear of what they dont need. There is not a focus of over-consumption in France, converse to the Super Size mentality we have here. Many countries in Europe embrace this same quality-not-quantity perspective. I remember my first trip to Italy a few summers ago when I first picked up on the phenomena. I remember (and so too does my travel friend) doing nothing but complaining about the Italian style of eating in Rome. A continental breakfast in Italy consisted of a piece of bread; coffee with milk, and some small pieces of cheese. Every hotel we stayed at, with the exception of one, offered up these supposed breakfasts with no other menu options. I just ended up sleeping through most of our complimentary breakfasts. Come lunch time I would go to one of the many little Panini sandwich shops that served up a wide selection of ingredients on an Italian roll. Turns out that these paninis were decorated with such a small amount of ingredients that I had to eat two of them to be fully satisfied. The pizza followed in similar suit. It was a razor thin piece of dough with stark patches of cheese and sauce, so as to render it looking almost incomplete. Again, I was disappointed . I paid no attention to how amazing the food tasted or how fresh the organic arugula and aged prosciutto was.I wanted quantity and a full stomach. I was on vacation for goodness sakes! This was the classic Fat Mentality alive and well on the streets of Rome. Americans just havent grasped that bigger is not better and that a consistently full stomach is far from ideal. Food here in the states is eaten quickly and hastily, almost always being digested before being fully enjoyed. This Fat Mentality places an emphasis on the size of the meal rather than the quality of the ingredients. As developing countries pick up on the American habits, they too pick up on American epidemics including obesity, heart disease and diabetes. The path is dangerous and difficult to avoid, yet when executed successfully, the payoff is invaluable. Affirmation Child’s Craft - Building Self-Esteem With a Two-Part Craft Project

By Connie Bowen One thing I know for sure its never too early to start learning to think positive! Here is a simple craft that children ages five through seven will enjoy creating. It involves two parts: one is making the three dimensional craft, and the other is writing and repeating an affirmation. Affirmations are positive first-person statements written in the present tense. They are often repeated throughout the day. Its all a matter of giving our subconscious minds a positive blueprint for a happy, abundant life. This project is suitable for a small group of children also, for say a classroom or a church group. Materials needed: (available at your local craft store) A small mirror, maybe 2-3 inches in diameter. It can be any shape. It neednt be perfectly round. A small amount of air-dry nontoxic colored clay. Crayola makes a brand of clay that will work fine. Because it is air-dry clay, the project will not have to be baked in an oven, and it will harden in 24 hours. Method: Step 1. Each child chooses a small amount of colored clay. The clay can be squished and blended, streaked or whatever design the children want to do. Step 2. Mold the clay into a lumpy ball shape. Place one edge of the mirror on the top of the lump and push down, so that the bottom of the lump now makes a flat base, and the mirror is partway stuck into the clay. The lump should now stand up by itself, with the mirror placed firmly in the top part of the clay. Step 3. The lump can be decorated by pushing in the blunt end of a pencil to make holes, and/or striations can be created by drawing lines in the clay with an open paper clip. The children can leave their thumb prints in one area, and smear another area so it is smooth. The only limit is the childs imagination and common tools found around the house. Clay can be placed on the top edge of the mirror also, to hold it in place. Wipe the mirror clean before the clay completely dries. Set aside this lovely mirror creation. The second half of the project involves writing an affirmation to go along with the mirror. Some sample affirmations would be I value myself. I honor who I am. I am worthy. I love myself. My life is filled with good things. My life is filled with love. I appreciate my special skills and talents. A good point to remember is to phrase the affirmation so it has meaning to each individual child. Affirmations can be used to change the energy around any situation. As an example: If a child is having difficulty in a certain area of their life, or in school, an affirmation can be used to change and heal the energy around that situation. Repeating I feel loved and protected all day long, would help a child dealing with fearful thoughts of feeling alone and vulnerable. I know what is best for me, for a child dealing with peer pressure. As long as the affirmation feels natural and not forced, it will have a calming, soothing effect. Its very important to phrase affirmations in positive terms, not in negative ones. As an example, saying I am no longer selfish is not an affirmation, and would undoubtedly create a situation of more selfishness. Instead, to feel more generous, a person would repeat I am generous and loving to myself and others. And if the person were feeling selfish, perhaps because of an underlying fearful thought of never having enough, an affirmation would be I am always provided for, or I always have everything I need, or The Universe is a safe and loving place. I am abundantly cared for. Negative statements have a tendency to create more of a situation that is not wanted. As an example, I ran into a friend of mine at the gym. She was upset because she had forgotten her gym bag and now had to skip her workout. She told me shed been repeating to herself before she left the house, Dont forget your gym bag! Her mind focused on the word forget, and sure enough, it created that very fact. If she had been repeating, Remember your gym bag, or I always remember my gym bag, perhaps she would have been able to work out. Finishing the childrens craft project: After the children have written out their affirmation with the help of an adult on a sturdy card or thick paper which when folded can stand up by itself, place the card and the mirror together. The mirror will remind the children of their inner beauty and self-worth as they repeat their affirmation throughout the day. Anyone of any age can use affirmations to create positive thoughts which in turn will create a wonderful life of beauty, purpose and promise! (Note: Enhancements can also be added to the mirror and affirmation if desired, such as sequins, feathers, paper cut-outs, etc.) This article may be re-published freely as long as the following resource box is included at the end of the article and as long as you link to the URL mentioned in the resource box: Connie Bowens books have sold over 50,000 copies worldwide and still counting! Party Games That Make You Laugh

By Steve Hatherley A couple of years ago as one of our family parties wound down, one of my mother’s friends said, “What a wonderful party - it’s so wonderful to laugh. We don’t laugh enough these days, don’t you think? ” Our family parties are, well, different than most other parties. The main difference between our parties and other parties is - party games. We have a large repetoire of partty games that make us laugh. Here are some of my favourites. Plum plum plum Plum plum plum is noisy and boistrous - the way a party game should be. You need about ten people for this, sitting in a circle with one person in the middle. Starting with the youngest player, each player in the circle chooses a different fruit. The object of the game is for the person in the middle to point at one of the people sitting down and say the name of their fruit three times before that person says the name of their fruit just once. It doesn’t matter who is being looked at - it’s who is being pointed at that has to answer with their fruit. If the person in the middle wins, they and the person they beat swap places - but the name of the fruit stays attached to that position. (So after a while nobody will be in their original positions and everyone will have to remember new fruit.) Note - you might want to ban really long (over three syllable) names; my father once chose “pomegranite” and we never managed to shift him. The name game This one is a little more sedate than Plm Plum Plum… To start this game ask everyone to think of a character or person - it could be someone famous, it could even be someone in the room. Then you should go outside, and each person should come to you one at a time and tell you the names they have chosen. Once you have made a note of all the names, read them out to everyone. Then read them out again - and then the game begins. (By the way, you don’t play the game as you know who everyone is.) Pick someone to start. That person choose a player and says, “Shirley, I think you are Darth Vader” (or whichever name they think that Shirley has chosen). If that player is wrong and Shirley isn’t Darth Vader, then it’s Shirley’s turn to try and guess who someone is. When someone is correctly guessed, that person is out, and the person who guessed correctly gets another go. The game ends when there is only one person left - the winner! The trick to playing this game is first choosing an unexpected name (one that isn’t normally associated with you) and then remembering the names on the list (as it is easy to forget after you’ve been playing for a few minutes). Catalogue Charades I’m sure you have played traditional charades, the game where you mime out the title of a book, movie or television programme. Well, we find that they’re a little too easy… We play this with one person setting the charades for two teams to work their way through. We normally use the same list, jumbled up so that they aren’t miming the same thing at the same time. As for what we get our willing volunteers to mime - we pick item from a hardware catalogue. So instead of trying to mime “Wind in the Willows”, they are miming “Cordless power screwdriver” or “Claw hammer with non-slip handle”. For a more sedate version of this game, you can play this with pen and paper instead of miming. Who am I? We quite often play this one as an icebreaker. This game requires a little bit of preparation. First, get some stickers (Post-It notes aren’t really robust enough but sticky address labels are ideal) and write the name of someone famous on each. The game is played with you putting a sticker on each player’s back (or their forehad, if they are up for it). That player then tries to guess who they are by only asking yes/no questions of the other players (for example, “Am I male?” “Am I a politician?” “Am I Bill Clinton?”). Lots of people can play this, and they can all play it at once, with players taking it in turns to ask questions. Each time someone is successful, they come to you for another sticker. If you are playing this competitively, the person who guesses the most is the winner. It is easy to theme this game by choosing 1950’s movie stars, or characters from The Lord of the Rings, for example. Chinese Mimes Chinese Mimes is a more energetic version of Chinese whispers. It can be played as a team, or just for fun. In Chinese whispers, the players line up all facing away from player #1. Player #1 then taps player #2 on the shoulder, and player #2 turns around. Player #1 mimes out an action to player #2. When they are finished, player #2 taps player #3 on the shoulder, and then mimes out the actions. And so the mime carries on down the line until at the end the last player as to try and figure out what the action was. If you are playing in teams, the first players in each team should agree to do the same mime. The mimes should be slightly off-beat. For example: Filling a steam iron with water, trying on a wedding dress, carrying out the safety instructions on an aeroplane… As I hope you can see, you can drop these games into almost any party - so let your hair down, play a game and have a laugh! The Revealing Touch

By James Sniechowski A number of years ago, Jim challenged Judith, telling her that she didnt touch him as much as he touched her. Judith was shocked. From her perspective, she was very affectionate physically. No way, said Jim, not so. By that time in our relationship wed learned how each other liked to receive criticism so that it wasnt experienced as an attack. But Jim wanted her to be sure to know he was very serious, and meant it as a challenge to her to become more aware, and of course much more physically affectionate. A short time later we were driving to meet her father, a trip of about an hour and a half. During the ride, Judith asked, Jim, do you feel that? She was smiling. Feel what? Jim said. Making her point, she squeezed his thigh where her hand already touched him. That. He looked down and knew immediately that he had been hoisted on his own challenge. How long has your hand been there? Judith was beaming with affection, Oh, about three minutes. Oh, he smiled, and began to move his mouth as though he was chewing. What are you doing? Judith wondered. As a blush was rising in his cheeks, he half-whispered, Well, this crow isnt bad. Your recipe? We both laughed, enjoying each others humanity. Sadly, in many relationships, a moment like that has the potential for real danger. The one exposed for being unconscious can feel it as humiliation and then retaliate. But that happens only when the foibles and frailties of being human are not embraced. The fact is, not one of us escapes feeling absolutely certain about something only to bump into the wide range of our own lack of awareness. You see, intimacy has a difficult time with absolute certainty. Theres no room to breathe, and no room to receive reality. Albert Camus wrote Nothing is true that forces one to exclude. We believe that wholeheartedly. Jim was not proclaiming from on high when he made the initial challenge. And Judith had no intention of belittling him. Reality was the point. Reality the only place where penetrating intimacy can take root and become a spiritual bouquet. Keep in mind, this point is tricky. We all have powerful feelings and act on them with confidence. Thats okay. As long as you remember not to exclude. When you do, you get caught in your own lie. Jims challenge opened up more awareness for us both. And thats the point. Intimacy and awareness are two sides of the same soul. And besides, now very little, if any, of our touching goes by unnoticed. Thats one level of the payoff. The other is consciousness. We are much better aware of each others needs with regard to physical affection, giving and receiving it more freely and joyously. Dont back away from announcing what you believe is right. Even if its not, if your intention is to support the well-being of your relationship, you will be rewarded in the end. Judith Sherven and James Sniechowski share the secret of life-long romance. Eucalyptus Oil for Colds and Flu

By Rudy Silva Recently I came down with a cold, flu, and some heavy chest congestion. My 8-year daughter also became sick. One of the Natural Remedies I used was Eucalyptus Oil, which helped to reduce the chest congestion and the symptoms of the flu. Herbalists use this oil to treat colds, coughs, and other respiratory ailments. Eucalyptus helps to loosen phlegm and improve lung function. The active ingredient in eucalyptus oil is cineol or euclyptol. The oil is a fine decongestant and has strong germicidal and antibacterial effects. Some other uses for Eucalyptus are skin problems, muscle, and nerve pain. It has been used as diuretic, and to lower blood sugar. Heres how I use this oil to help me when I have a cold with cough and chest congestion. Just before bedtime, I rub the oil on my chest and throat. Then I wrap a cloth around my neck to keep it warm and to help the eucalyptus to penetrate the skin. If you have EMU oil, you can add a drop or two of EMU to the eucalyptus oil to help it penetrate your skin faster and deeper. EMU oil has the property of penetrating the skin and moving deep into your tissues and to carry any other substances that are mix with it into the skin. I use plenty of eucalyptus oil in the rub, but some of you might react to it so just rub a little to see it you will be ok with it. If you use eucalyptus oil with other oils, it becomes less irritating. Eucalyptus oil can also be used in a steam inhalation to help with colds or flu.You can also mix eucalyptus with tea tree oil and massage your chest and back when you have the flu. You can also mix eucalyptus with thyme, rosemary and lemon and diffuse it into the room when you are sick with the flu or cold. Only use eucalyptus for the time need to clear you cold. Long-term use of this oil has an effect on the liver. Do not use eucalyptus oil on children under 6 years. Nutritionist. He is the author of Constipation, Acne, Hemorrhoid, and Fatty Acid ebooks. Play Safe With Your Online Drug Purchase

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Suzanne_Macguire] Suzanne Macguire Rocketing prices of prescription drugs have compelled the US citizens to look for cheaper alternatives. Thanks to online Canadian pharmacies that have provided Americans with an easier and better solution! Canadian pharmacies do not compromise on the quality of drugs in spite of their reduced prices. This is one of the principle reasons for its overgrowing demand in recent years. However, there have been some disconcerting reports, which have raised eyebrows about the authenticity of certain drugs labeled under Canadian pharmacies. Americans now have a two-fold task on their hands- approach the right Canadian pharmacy, and demand an assurance of the quality of the drugs offered. There have been few cases where drugs purchased by Canadian pharmacies have turned out to be fake ones. In August 2005, an operation conducted by the FDA found several prescription drugs sent from India, Costa Rica (supposedly to be imported from Canada). 85 percent of the drugs, which claimed to be from Canada, actually were manufactured in 27 different countries. Such cases have raised concern about the risks associated with unsafe drugs. It’s very important for the people to be enlightened about such issues and take complete precaution prior to making such purchases online. The first step towards making your choice is to approach a licensed online Canadian pharmacy that has high standards of safety and consumer service. Canadian pharmacy experts suggest some of the best possible ways for choosing the some of the best online pharmacies: 1) A good Canadian pharmacy should provide its license number on its website along with the name of the Canadian regulatory agency as an evidence of its authenticity. 2) An authentic Canadian pharmacy should display its seals of approval by organizations (such as CIPA or IMPAC) that set the standards of safety and service among Canadian mail-order pharmacies that sell to Americans. 3) Reputable Canadian pharmacies always ask for your doctor’s prescription before supplying your order. In case you fax your prescription, your doctor is required to confirm it over the phone. If this is not fulfilled, then the pharmacy waits until your original prescription arrives. 4) It is essential for you to submit your medical history and go through the transaction policies prior to the purchase of drugs from a recognized online Canadian pharmacy. 5) A good Canadian pharmacy requires you to consume its drug for at least a month to confirm that the medication suits you. Once confirmed, your medication is mailed immediately. 6) Reputed Canadian pharmacies always display their full mailing address and phone numbers on their websites for any consultation with the pharmacists, emergency or otherwise. 7) Trusted Canadian pharmacies explain the difference between American and Canadian pharmacies and also provide the reason for the unavailability of certain drugs. 8) Normally, the drugs sent by a good Canadian pharmacy are contained in the original manufacturer’s container. However, drugs may be mailed in ordinary bottles if the quantity of pills in the manufacturers container exceeds a 90-day supply. 9) Authentic [http://www.buylowdrugs.com] Canada pharmacy drug is supplied with appropriate labels that include its strength, dosing directions, expiration date, appropriate warnings and a Drug Identification Number (DIN) that shows the drug has been approved by the Canadian government health authorities. 10) Besides, good Canada pharmacies offer secure (encrypted) online payment for credit cards, alternative options for payment (such as electronic fund transfers and regular checks) and do not charge any separate fees except for shipping. The customer is charged only when the mail order has been placed first. In case of unsuccessful delivery of the mail order, the entire amount is refunded by pharmacy. So make your online drug purchase keeping the above points in mind. The market of online Canadian pharmacy is great and it needs proper discretion on part of the customers to make the right choice. A little caution can go a great way to treating you of ill health as well as keeping you safe from unnecessary hassles. Are You Still Anxious on Medication?

By Joanne King There are many other people out there who still get anxious and/or suffer panic attacks while taking medication. For some people, it may even increase their anxieties as a side effect. If you still feel anxious taking the medication its because when a person is TRULY anxious none of these medications are going to stop these nasty sensations. These medications are supposed to be used as a bridge to help you overcome your anxiety disorder. In other words, you also need to be seeking other alternative methods to help you conquer the disorder. For example:- CBT Cognitive Behavioural Techniques EFT Emotional Freedom Techniques What these basically are, are programs designed to show you how to re-learn (re-program your brain) Which is basically what you need to do, you need to unlearn your anxious behaviour and re-teach your brain how to react to fear and stress in an appropriate way. This is basically what I teach in How to Overcome Anxiety & Panic Attacks but in a very simplistic way. Its just a matter of finding what you react to and understand the best.
